TACOMA: Strickland action warrants recall

Re: “Airfare gift: What was Mayor Strickland thinking?” (editorial, 3-11).

The question the editorial board posed regarding Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland’s travel expenses associated with her recent trip to Asia is not mind-boggling. The answer is: She was not thinking.

According to remarks attributed to Strickland. she was “on official city business,” which included a visit with her cousin and a meeting with a women’s group in Korea. Is her cousin the mayor of major Korean city or the head of a local chamber of commerce? I doubt it.

City business? Give me a break!

Clearly, her acceptance of a “gift” (an estimated $3,000 for airfare) from a prominent Lakewood businessman is a violation of state law and possibly of the city’s ethics code.

It is time for a recall petition.

  1. Just a little over the top Don? Get a grip.

  2. I think there are several steps before a recall. It’s this kind of letter that deters smart people from running for office.

  3. the3rdpigshouse says:

How many smart people do you find in political office in Tacoma??! Steve Conway votes for the elimination of polling stations, Connie Ladenburg supports drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, Strickland can’t understand why receiving gifts while in public office may be a problem!!

Tacoma’s ignorant electorate repeatedly elects incompetent representatives to local & State government positions!!

  4. Her motives were to save the city some money. So, let’s recall her. Get someone in there who isn’t interested in saving money.

  5. the3rdpigshouse says:

I’m taking bids for that bridge to nowhere!!!

  6. PumainTacoma says:

    Federal corruption practices act =jail+fine.

Agree we have too many dumb voters who vote in people like Strickland, Ladenburg, Conway and the whole 27th District politicians. These groupies never worked in a corporation, balanced a budget, worked 60 hour weeks or worked with their hands. Conway bullies any union member who votes Republican storming his way into homes who have a republican sign in their yard what kind of weirdo bullies into homes? There is enough corruption in Tacoma politics to make Washam look like a saint.
