BILLBOARDS: Don’t allow digital blight

I am surprised that Clear Channel plans on placing a digital billboard on the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Division. A digital billboard at that location would be an eyesore to our community.

A digital billboard would be one of the first things that visitors would see when they exit from Sprague Avenue entering Tacoma. This would not reflect well on visitors entering this area on their way to a revitalized Sixth Avenue, hospitals and medical clinics, Wright Park and the historic Stadium District.

What does this say about our community when we let the opportunity for increased revenue impede our quality of life? Tacoma has a long history of preserving the past, and I am shocked that we would put a digital billboard near a historic area with single-family homes surrounding it.

This community has tried very hard to improve this area. In many ways we have succeeded, and I feel that this installation would attract more crime and nighttime activity.
