Saturday was an exciting day for many Pierce County families. The boys’ teams from four local schools played for state championships in Tacoma and Yakima: Curtis (4A), Lakes (3A), Clover Park (2A) and Cascade Christian (1A).

I congratulate all of the local boys’ and girls’ teams that made it to the state tournaments. All of them demonstrated grit and determination throughout the season and should be proud of their accomplishments.

Pierce County is a basketball powerhouse. I can’t remember four teams from our county in the finals at the same time. I congratulate Lakes, Clover Park and Cascade Christian for winning their championships and bringing the trophies home to Pierce County.
