TACOMA: Make paying for parking easier

The other day I patronized a business in the paid parking section of downtown Tacoma. My friend and I managed to come up with the right amount of change.

I, as well as many others, do not like to put a 75 cent or $1.50 charge on a credit card. The city could resolve some of the paid parking issues by developing a prepaid, reloadable card that parking meters could read and deduct the amount of time the patron desired.

These cards could be purchased at grocery stores, banks and in the local business establishments. This would make it unnecessary for customers to run into a business in search of change. The city would have the money, before the parking was used, and any unused monies would belong to the city.

  1. Wouldn’t it be nice if these cards could be used so that the businesses we patronize could validate for parking, Elizabeth?

If businesses had to validate parking how would the city make its money?? I dont see that happening sadley.

  3. surething says:

It’s really not that big of a deal.

  4. Roncella says:

These parking meters are doing nothing but hurting the businesses in Down Town Tacoma

. Why would anyone shop in Downtown Tacoma when less than 10 mins. away they have a huge Tacoma mall and many strip malls with free parking and a huge selection of stores and services to choose from, WHY ??

You folks at City Hall and the Mayor should be ashamed of yourselves for what you are doing to the small businesses trying to survive in Down Town Tacoma, in a terrible economy with gas nearing 4.00 a gal and climbing.

  5. Roncella, maybe people shop downtown because they work downtown.
Don;t by that, try walking around downtown after 7pm or on Sunday.

  6. live4fish says:

I’m confused…didn’t the businesses downtown all want the meters? And now they are complaining?

  7. You are confused, live4fish. There is nowhere on this page where any businesses are complaining about “the meters.” Elsewhere there was one complaint that enforcement didn’t always allow for getting change.

This letter suggests a way for patrons to purchase prepaid, re-loadable cards, which will make paid parking easier; a good suggestion.

Paid parking isn’t driving business away from downtown, as predicted.

  8. Roncella says:

Polago, Lets wait a few years and see how many small businesses are left . I predict at least a 20% lost of businesses in Downtown Tacoma in two years, especially in this economy of Obamacare and 4.50 a gal for gas.

  9. live4fish says:

People should just stop their whining about something they wanted.
