SHOOTING: TNT disrespectful to crime-scene neighbors

The officer-involved shooting on Puyallup Avenue was a tragic occurrence. However, for the TNT to bring up “by-the-hour motels and hole-in-the-wall bars” (1-29) was disrespectful to the customers, owners and employees of those businesses.

First of all, it had no relevance to the story. And second, the owners have worked very hard to improve the area. It has come such a long way, and for this newspaper to comment on its criminal activity is just plain wrong. I don’t recall hearing negative things about the area in the Walmart shootings.

Unfortunately, these shootings are becoming way too common and need to stop. It can happen anywhere, so maybe you should leave tax-paying businesses alone.

    Yes its improved, but only to the point the WHORES and PIMPS blend in more now. They are still there all over. I see them every time I ride or drive through there. That whole area should be bulldozed and burned down.

  2. According to the report, the man shot bought a knife at the Union gas station immediately before the event, so I find your logic hard to follow. Besides, unfortunately knowing the proprietors of that gas station, I would recommend that the police investigate where the now deceased individual got his gun from.

  3. “The surrounding area, thick with by-the-hour motels and hole-in-the-wall bars”

    So where is this area that is thick with motels and bars?

    I took a google street view drive around the area and found one motel and one bar/restaurant. If the area is thick with motels and bars it would seem I should find many more than that?

    Also a fairly clear day and not a person in sight. Maybe Tacoma asked google to remove all the people standing around getting their daily dose of sunshine?

  4. Coldone;
    The patrons of the motel by the hour got moved down to South Tacoma Way to “service” the troops now that they are returning from Iraq and Afghan caves. Previously they had been moved to Puyallup Avenue by Fife cops to get them away from the Poodle Dog.
    Respectfully submitted

    PC is killing this country. Puyallup Ave does not pass the Duck Test as far as a family friendly area.

    I worked for the TPCHD as an HIV counselor for 5 years doing many court ordered HIV tests. I do not think I did 1 active duty military during this time, so your comment about moving them back to S Tacoma Way is nothing but wrong! Actually Lakewood makes a lot of money off of johns being arrested/ticketed for prostitution from their court system. They make more money off the johns than the prostitutes. The military is not the cause of prostitution nor the main consumers of the service in Lakewood.
