COLUMNIST: Republican held to higher standard

The news cycle must be very slow in the eastern part of country. Eugene Robinson proves this with his latest column (1-2), an attack piece on Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey.

Where was Robinson’s outrage at President Obama as he vacationed while the huge oil spill was occurring in the Gulf of Mexico?

Not a word about that from Robinson despite the loss of life and thousands of people out of work, loss of businesses and tremendous loss to the economy. Where was Obama? Busy vacationing way up north, in Martha’s Vineyard off a much different coast.

But as Christie has become a very outspoken governor by cutting expenses and trying to balance a budget run amok by years of Democrats’ governance, he has become a target for liberals and Democrats to critique and criticize him at every opportunity.

Robinson shows once again his different standards for conservatives and liberals.

C’mon ron…..did you really miss the swipe at the Mayor of NYC (who has been Dem, Repub, and Independent depending upon which was most convenient) Or the former mayor of D.C. (Dem)? It was in the very top of the Op-Ed, not buried.

  2. Roncella says:

beerBoy, Interesting that Roinson conviently used his whole column to criticize Governor Christie.

  3. Roll_On says:

Republicans are held to a higher standard because Democrats have no standards.

  4. whatIdo says:

Ron, if a poster responds to you on 2 threads in one day, he may be a stalker.

  5. beerBoy says:

    cognitive dissonance?

  6. whatIdo says:

Perhaps, what does your Dr. say?

  7. beerBoy says:

Ron(cella) continues to demonstrate how his bias affects his reading comprehension skills.

The majority of the article is about Marion Barry (D – mayor of DC), followed by Michael Bilandic (D – mayor of Chicago) followed by Bloomberg (D/R/I – mayor of NYC) with a brief mention of Christie. Christie has shares mention with Bloomberg in paragraph 2 and paragraph 13 and then has one sentence devoted to him in paragraph 14.

The article concludes with a positive note about Cory Booker (D – mayor of Newark) so maybe that is why ron is so upset…..but then, Robinson didn’t mention the Party affiliation of any of the people.

It might be that Ron(cella) has an enlarged amygdala like the conservatives studied in the U.K., or maybe he is demonstrating a knee-jerk reaction to almost any and all columns written by Robinson and his fellow Black, liberal pundit – Pitts. Or maybe Ron(cella) just didn’t have anything better to write for his monthly letter to the editor.

    Average people talk about things
Small people talk about other people

“Great people talk about ideas, average people talk about things, small people talk about other people.”
    Eleanor Roosevelt

  9. beerBoy says:

Some people are almost always small as they rarely, if ever, talk about things or ideas.

  10. whatIdo says:

    There you go again.

  11. Roncella says:

beerBoy, The fact remains that the article as written by Robinson was an assult on Governor Christie.

beerBoy, A Question for you to comprehen and digest.

Have either Robinson or Pitts Jr. ever written a positive letter about Conservatives or Conservative Republicans, or about America for that matter ???

  12. beerBoy says:

    ron – demonstrate this “fact”.

The reality is that the article was a topical comment about snow storms and politicians. In descending order it focused upon:
    Marion Barry
    Michael Bilandic
    Bloomberg
    and finally
    Christie.

There were three sentences that mentioned Christie. Of those two were shared with Bloomberg. Of all the politicians criticized Christie had the least amount of mention (by far).

Yet you somehow interpret this as “an assault on Governor Christie”.

What a bizarre lens you see this world through.

  13. Roncella says:

beerBoy, We all see the world in alot different ways. Like I original said it must be a slow news cycle back east.

Have you ever read a positive column by either PittsJr. or Robinson about Conservatives or Conservative Republicans, I haven’t, but then again it may just be that lens you keep referring to coloring my opinion again.
