right on Mr. Penalver! accountability is what is needed and that is the way to get it. plus, should there not be a cap on these people’s salaries? they are insane.

Are you talking about the private sector system that awarded billions of dollars of bonuses to wall street managers for actions that would have bankrupted their companies if the government hadn’t bailed them out? The system that gave the ex-CEO of GM 20 million retirement after he drove the company into bankruptcy?

I’d say we need a better model than that.

Here is a wild and crazy idea, put the manager’s, department heads, and other administrators on a performance based merit system similar to the one being proposed for public school teachers.

I agree that the Manger and County Coucil should for go their resent raises, but would like to point out that the union is being asked to for go 2.5% cost living raisies in 2010 and 2011.

I was born in Tacoma and lived there until after the City Manager form of government structure was established. I well remember the corruption the commision form of government delivered in the early nineteen fifties and the reason to shift to the city manager form of management. Having said that, I think for the sitting City Manager to accept the salary raise offerred is a tactical mistake that will not serve him well. It is really not going help his economic wellbeing that much and will certainly piss off many of his supporters. Seems like a dumb decision.
