As we get closer to election day and are subject to being inundated by political name calling (both sides), outright lies (again, both sides), and incredible amounts of money being spent to sway votes, it is easy for us to become worn out, cynical, and hopeless.
Doesn’t anything good ever happen? Is no one in our world interested not in self promotion, but in genuinely wanting good things to happen to less fortunate people who, there but for the grace of God go all of us.
Well, on Thursday, Oct. 28, something really good, no something really miraculous happened in Tacoma. During the morning hours women and children, doing their best to improve their lives were moved from cramped and non private conditions at the Pierce County YWCA, to their beautiful new rooms at the Wilsonian. We have a little insight because our daughter is a YWCA employee, and we had the honor of doing a little volunteering in preparation for the move.
We have talked to and listened to the folks who work there, and it is impossible to not be uplifted by their passion for what they do. The stories of the heartfelt gratitude of the residents is enough to raise the spirits of anyone in need of an “attitude adjustment.” There are still wonderful people in this world, it’s just that they’re a lot quieter than most. Take the time to look for and listen to them and do what you can to help them help others.
