ELECTION: “Drama Queens” for Murray

My, how election season brings out the “drama queens.” Recently, as a Rossi supporter attending Vice President Biden’s campaign rally for Patty Murray at UW Tacoma, I stood with 15 others holding Dino Rossi signs, surrounded by 50 t-shirted union members who initially insisted that they had rented the sidewalk and the Rossi supporters should leave. (It’s public property; we didn’t.)

One individual paraded in front of us in an orange jumpsuit showing names of various banks, repeatedly shrieking that Rossi is just a banker (he’s not) who cares only about his “buddies.” When I challenged her “facts”, all I got was “Now you’re trying to suppress my freedom of speech!” Our pro-Rossi group stayed focused on the issues, but the other group wasn’t interested in rational exchange.

Later, on the UWT grand staircase listening to the Murray/Biden collective, I heard only 1930‘s-era class-warfare oratory. Supporters cheered as Murray and Biden demonized Republicans and bragged about what the current “progressive” administration, with Murray’s “leadership,” has accomplished for the “little guy.”

I heard nothing about how the little guy, after two years of government intervention, now has a tougher time finding work, and soon will be paying more for the same amount of health care (that would be you, Boeing employees). The theatrics I witnessed before and during this rally crystallized what’s happening in our country right now.

Let’s bring back reasonable, rational, and responsible discourse; let’s replace the drama queen with Dino Rossi.
