Re: ” Murray, Rossi play dodgeball” (TNT, 10-18).

Both Patty Murray and Dino Rossi were articulate and courteous in their debate Sunday. Neither changed my vote.

As I see it, Rossi wants a return to inadequately regulated banks. That started the whole world’s economic crash from which we’re painfully trying to extricate ourselves.

Obama’s efforts haven’t succeeded perfectly. But my father was a Republican legislator during the Great Depression – until he turned Democratic. He admitted that continuing Hoover laissez-faire policies would likely have caused armed revolution, with 30 million unemployed in our then populace of less than 150 million.

Rossi would join in repealing Obama’s health care. My wife and I lived two years under Norway’s single-payer health care. Sweden and Denmark have similar systems. The World Health Organization regularly rates one of those three lands as No. 1 in the world on health care.

The United States ranks 37th, although we spend twice as much on health care, per capita, as any other land. Which is why health care is one-sixth of our economy. That’s shameful!

Yes, you can get the world’s best health care in the United States – if you can afford it. The U.S.’s ridiculous amount of health care in emergency rooms shows that hordes of citizens can’t afford it– so the rest of us have to pay for it.

I can’t stomach a return to the Bush era. I’ll vote for Murray.
