ATTACKS ON OBAMA: Who pays Glenn Beck and Karl Rove?

Letter by Margot LeRoy, Gig Harbor on Oct. 12, 2010 at 5:14 pm with 62 Comments »
October 12, 2010 5:14 pm

Let’s pin this down further. Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity all work, in some capacity for Fox News.

Fox News is owned by Rupert Murdoch, a wealthy man who is not an American citizen. That is a fact. So a bunch of Republican politicians who appear on camera are paid by a foreign corporation owned by a foreigner.

The Chamber of Commerce also employs as lobbyists many of these same people. Now, if the Chamber isn’t accepting money from foreign corporations, or those American corporations who are shipping jobs overseas, why not fully disclose where their ad money is coming from?

It is easy to bluster at the president and Democrats. But don’t get distracted by the bluster. The Republicans in the Senate killed a bill that would have penalized corporations who shipped jobs abroad. Wall Street reform, health care reform; any changes that cost corporations and their lobbyists are at the top of the “kill” list.

And Murdoch and many powerful business interests keep these people on the air and on their payroll for a reason. I salute our president for pointing out the obvious. Put up or shut up, Chamber of Commerce.

    LOL… Margot, selective outrage much???

  2. Sumner401 says:

Big business pays them, and now it seems China, India, France and many other foreign nations pay for our Congress.
Sold for pennies on the dollar by the freedom loving ‘real’ Americans on the right.

  3. OldLefty says:

There is already a draft of legislation to eliminate cloaked financing of election campaigns.

Let’s see how fast the Republicans can vote no to it, or try to add something like tax cuts for the wealthy to the bill.

  4. nokoolaide says:

Obama refused to identify his doners in 2008, but is all for it now. How convenient.

The marxist/socialist “OH-Bummer” will never get my salute!!! Wake up America and get these socialist democrats out of government!!! If I want to get the attention off of my disastrous presidency, I think maybe I will falsely accuse the other party of receiving foreign funds for their political campaign – the hypocracy and dishonesty of the socialist democrats reeks!!!

  9. bobcat1a says:

Sadly, Rupert is, in fact, a naturalized citizen of the U.S.

  10. horton try the smell test in this paper also you don’t seem to recall that Obama agreed to spending limits untill McCain took his first draw. them the good old honest john Obama renig on his promise. Nice try but you folks are a looong way from the high ground

  11. UnbiasedReporter says:

“are paid by a foreign corporation owned by a foreigner.”

Well, News Corp is an American Corporation and has been for the almost six years:

Formerly incorporated in South Australia, the company was re-incorporated under Delaware General Corporation Law after a majority of shareholders approved the move on November 12, 2004.

Murdoch himself has been a naturalized American citizen since 1985.

  12. Excellent letter. It’s a shame that so many Americans have fallen for this charade.

Gee, like maybe accusing the President of being born in Kenya???

Yeah.. the right would NEVER do that..

    ..that would be un-patriotic!!

  14. pazzo242 says:

This letter writer focuses on jobs being outsourced to China, India and other places and that is true but why doesn’t anyone ever mention anything about those jobs being brought here. Companies like Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Volvo, Mazda, Nissan, BMW, etc have all built factories in the USA—employing thousands. Also many other companies are looking at and researching the possibilities of opening up in the USA, which will further the employment in this country.

“For every job “outsourced” to India and other foreign countries, nearly two new jobs were generated here in the U.S. Those new U.S. jobs were higher-skilled and better-paying—filled by scientists, engineers, marketing professionals and others hired to meet the new demand created by their foreign subsidiaries. ” (http://www.dailymarkets.com/economy/2010/10/12/outsourcing-and-insourcing-both-create-u-s-jobs/)

  15. FreeAmerica says:

How is Murdoch any different the George Soros?

  16. iamjimbo says:

George Soros is sitting this one out.

Be scared, Democrats, because Daddy’s taking the credit card away. That’s right: George Soros, the billionaire financier who’s bankrolled many Democratic victories in previous years, isn’t donating to them this year, saying that even he can’t stop the Republican “avalanche.”

  17. iamjimbo says:

hortonpeak… google > Obama refused to identify his donors in 2008

    … and take yer pick.

  18. Just to be clear here…..you rightists are saying s’OK because they do it too!

It would be amazing if fraud and abuse of power would upset all of us – even when “our side” benefits from it.

  19. FreeAmerica says:

Like I said BBoy…100+ million spent on $200K job…both sides…who do they work for?

  20. nwcolorist says:

Just like Pavlov’s dogs, when the word “corporation” is mentioned, the usual commenters come out start salivating (more like foaming at the mouth).

The reason that businesses send their work out of the country is very simple – they can do it cheaper there than here. Instead of ranting and railing against these ‘evil people’, the solution is to figure out how to become more competitive.

  21. Sumner401 says:

How is Murdoch any different the George Soros?

24/7 propaganda network to brain wash and indoctrinate simple minded people, set policy by disseminating misinformation and creating false outrage! among the same simple minded viewers. Political fund raising machine targeting a nation wide audience for local races. The candidates only appear on the propaganda network where questions can be carefully controlled, avoiding those pesky questions about policy and issues.
24/7 political attack machine, using outright lies, trumped up charges and innuendo.

Soros just gives money to causes he cares about.
    Thats the difference.

  22. Maybe Soros should buy himself a media outlet.

  23. jtarleton says:

Both parties should make their campaign contributions transparent. If this is not required don’t be surprises one day when we no longer are a sovereign. And if you don’t care I suggest you are not a patriotic American, maybe just a internationalist, one world government kind of guy.

  24. Roncella says:

Come on folks don’t fall for the Liberal Democrats diversion tactic of making false claims without proof, Rather than talk about all the terrible mis-takes President Obama has made in only 2 years.

None of the Democrats are running using the terrible Obamacare bill or stimus bills that Obama and the Democrats forced through the Congress.

All they can do is attack, attack and make false charges against Republicans and tea party folks.

  25. jtarleton says:

sorry about my lack of proof reading

  26. Sumner401 says:

Maybe Soros should buy himself a media outlet.

Real Americans know how anti-American it is to use the public airwaves to work against the nations best interests.
    Soros is a real American.

  27. jtarleton says:

Here’s another thought. Is there anyone out there who could disprove the fact that when Bush entered the White House the National Debt was about 5 trillion and when he left it was almost 12 trillion.

  28. jtarleton says:

Another thought. …. It is not a “good” idea to elect individuals to governmental office

  29. jtarleton says:

continued …. (I’m multitasking here and not doing a very good job at it)

Once again. Its not a good idea to elect individuals to governmental positions who believe that government can’t do anything right.

  30. jtarleton says:

Soros ….Smoros I don’t care who gives money to who for what commercial. I just want to know where its coming from. Then I should be able to make an informed decision about the validity of the commercial.

Well Sumner… calling Bush debt 7 trillion isn’t the truth… even with 30 billion tarp funds… come far short of 7 trillion… but I guess the truth eludes you.

I’m on there quite a bit jtarleton…some good reads

  40. You crack me up Sumner. I was being sarcastic about Soros; thought you’d pick up on it–sorry it flew right by you.

  41. UnbiasedReporter is correct….as far as he goes….but let’s note that RM became a “naturalized citzen” in 1996 to “…in order to satisfy the legal requirement that only US citizens were permitted to own American television stations.. ” after which he began expanding his international broadcast empire rapidly with US media companies. Further, in 1995 News Ltd was an Australian corporation owning Fox News which was allowed by the FCC who “….stated that his ownership of Fox was in the best interests of the public. ” Joke/Joke…wonder how much that cost. As reported by Forbes, FoxNews, Ltd was incorporated in Delaware as a US company in order to ‘…list it’s stock on the NYSE and make it more attractive and accessible to investors”.
In summary, he became a US citzen purely for business reasons.. Make no mistake, he is the single most powerful international Media Moghul in the world…”a citizen of the world” with known residences in Sydney, Melbourne, London, and New York…and he has a long history of political manipulation to further his own interests in Australia, the UK, and the United States.

  42. FreeAmerica says:

    jtarleton says:

“Is there anyone out there who could disprove the fact that when Bush entered the White House the National Debt was about 5 trillion and when he left it was almost 12 trillion.”

Uhmm… yeah, you proved it. According to the link you provided, above, the total federal debt as of January 20, 2009 (for those on capitol hill, that would be the day 0bama took office) stood at 10.6 Trillion. Waaaaay too much, to be sure, but significantly less than you claim.

Oh, and thanks to your link we now know that the federal debt as of October 13, 2010 (that would be today for all of of you evergreen state college grads) stands at 13.6 Trillion.

Damn George Bush has spent another 3 Trillion that we don’t have, in less than two years, and he isn’t even in the Oval Office anymore!

    HTH

  44. jtarleton says:

Do you consider 11.7 trillion significantly less than 10.6. Keep in mind that is w/o the TARP Bush pass.
I guess the question might be a comparsion between Bush after 20 months compared to Obama after 20 months.

  45. donjames says:

“… and he has a long history of political manipulation to further his own interests… ”

Wheww… for a moment there I thought you were talking about Jeffrey Immelt.

  46. donjames says:

j, your own link shows the federal debt has grown by 3 Trillion from 1/20/09 to 10/13/10.

And, I’m sorry, but I do not see anywhere on that site where it says the total on 1/20/09 did not include TARP I.

  47. FreeAmerica says:

The Bush tarp was 356 billion and was paid back to a total of 30 billion remaining..
I don’t like the amount of money being spent…period, from both administrations.

J… I do consider 11.7 trillion significantly less than 10.6 trillion…but that 10.6 didn’t all come from Bush.

Here maybe this will help?…. http://www.theobamadebt.com/

  48. iamjimbo says:

Just to be clear here…..you leftists are saying snot’OK (even if it’s a bad lie) even tho we do it all the time!

  49. Moo – to bad that even more people have fallen for the charade that the President is not a natural born U.S. citizen.

3pig – the hypocrisy and dishonesty you speak of comes from the right. The real red herring is the rights attempt to divert attention from the large amounts of money from both foreign and domestic companies that are being spent by the republicans.

pazzo242 – please explain why U.S. unemployment is so high.

Nwcolorist – it would also help it the republicans in the senate would support tax breaks for companies that do bring jobs back, and tax penalties for companies that send jobs overseas.

Jtarton – thanks to the Supreme Court and the citizens united case donors no longer have to be identified.

Roncella – you should know all about false claims with no proof – you do it all the time. And I don’t see many R’s and TB’s running on anything but attack ads, hate, let’s bring back the policies that caused the problems the Dems are trying to fix, and lets declare all federal taxes and spending un-constitutional.

Donjames – nice red herring – let’s make the president revel his 2008 donors to divert attention from our 2010 donors.

FA – you forgot the two unnecessary wars and all the black funds dear sweet Bush the un-elected spent. Also Murdock became a U.S. citizen; the Mexican doesn’t have to cross the river to be an american as anyone who has spent any time near the border would know.

  50. i.j. I used to enjoy watching PeeWee Herman because it was so childish

“I know you are, but what am I?”

  51. iamjimbo says:

For red herring read above post…

    Bob Schieffer, CBS:

CBS’s Bob Schieffer on Sunday mocked President Obama’s senior adviser …

“The New York Times looked into the Chamber specifically and said the Chamber really isn’t putting foreign money into the campaign,” said the Face the Nation host.

“This part about foreign money, that appears to be peanuts,” chided Schieffer.
    ………….
    New York Times:

But a closer examination shows that there is little evidence that what the chamber does in collecting overseas dues is improper or even unusual, according to both liberal and conservative election-law lawyers and campaign finance documents.
    ………….
    Plenty more of the same…

  52. Jimbo – The Chambers own letters to foreign corporations state that the money from the foreign corporation will be used to influence the American election. That is know in legal circles as an admission of guilt.

  53. Who pays Chris Matthews, Olbermann, Ed Shultz and the rest of those commies at CNN and MSNBC? Why weren’t you crying about the unions and their foreign connections pouring money into the demokrat socialists coffers? The SEIU is an international union which means they have foreign money to support their commie canidates. Whine on chick, the Supreme Court has ruled. Game over for you mouth breathers.

  54. iamjimbo says:

    “The Chambers own letters …”
    Got any links sumner?

  55. Frosty – Mathews, Olbermann, Shultz are employed by MSNBC who pays their slaerys

  56. Oops – finger twitched, post should have read:

Frosty – Mathews, Obermann, and Shultz are employed by MSNBC who pay then, just like FOX pays its people.

The court may have ruled, but the game is not over.

  57. Candles16 says:

This letter is a little goofy but the outrage is right – that our elections are being smothered in money especially with tons of foreign money from the Chamber of the Commerce who actively supports outsourcing American industry and jobs.

The Chamber takes money from companies in India and China that want American factories to move to their countrie , so they will give plenty of money to the Chamber to launder the money through to the campaigns to influence our American Elections. Any wonder that the Republicans this month voted down a bill that would have eliminated the tax breaks to companies that move overseas – to outsource American jobs in essence.

Its illegal for foreign companies to influence and and the Chamber of Commerce is running a criminal attack on America.

If you want to keep American jobs here, get mad every time you see one of the disgusting Chamber ads or one of the sleazeball ads from Karl Rove.

Get mad and vote against the frikin Republicans who have been outsourcing our economy for the last ten years and will keep outsourcing our economy if Republican snakes like Rossi gets in office.

I’m not sure if its accurate that Murdock is not a US citizen, I believe he did become an American citizen, but his company is based in Europe and is not an American corporation and it is donating tons of money to the Republicans ( not to mention all the in–kind donation of free airtime they give exclusively to Republicans – worth multiple millions).

Bob Schieffer is an idiot and ought to retire.

  58. FreeAmerica says:

    Here we go again… candles???

I’m tired of the same old talking points…..

How does a global company compete with out of control taxation from the Democrats??
Growing government expense and asking the evil corporations to pay for it??? Sure they are going to move…to survive.

Blaming Republicans for corporations moving is an oxymoron….

As you tax big companies forcing tthem to move, you straddle smaller companies with higher tax burden and you still want to grow government… We are mad… at the frickin democrats that blame everybody but themselves.

When will the small minded liberal understand how costs are covered to insure a bottom line…. higher the cost.. more cost to consumer.

Sounds like you came right from msnbc…get a clue

  59. George Soros’s favorite party prevents drilling in ANWAR and U.S. drilling in the G.of M. while about 30 or so other countries continue to whistle as they work right past us. Soros is coincidentally investing heavily in oil operations off the coast of Brazil, hmmmm. Not bad for a Hitler Youth informant. Then there’s Mr. Immelt doing business with our declared enemies and another heavily dual-leveraged supporter of the Dems.
X- 2001 – 2009 deficit….did that include the Twin Towers? Was that factored into BHO’s tenure? hope not…

  60. Candles- (spotted owl)Gore took money from the Chinese in 2000. Where were you?

  61. FA – if your are tired of talking points why do you keep posting them?

Larsman by U.S. drilling do you mean Shell and BP? Hate to tell you neither is a U.S. compamy. As for drilling in other countries – maybe they are smart enough to require drilling be done using proper drilling and safety devices and methods?

Canles 16 – forgive the rightwing spews – they know not what they are talking about.
