ELECTION: Dave Reichert needs to explain vote

Letter by Chris C. Gillis, Puyallup on Oct. 1, 2010 at 2:33 pm with 10 Comments »
October 1, 2010 2:36 pm

Congressman Dave Reichert owes his constituents an explanation on why he voted no on H.R. 847: James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010.

I cannot think of a worthier cause than helping 9/11 first responders who have become ill as a result of exposure to the toxic environment around ground zero. These individuals are heroes and deserve our respect and help in their time of need.

I have to wonder if Reichert is just playing politics here or has just become a robot for the Republican Party. Numerous times the congressman said he maintains his independence from his party. This vote would have been the time to show it, but I feel in this case he has let us down. I for one am waiting to hear why.

Congressman Reichert is being endorsed by the Major public safety unions around the state. From what I understand, with regards to this particular bill, it had a tax attached to it, that was not desireable for his constiuents. He has ALWAYS been a friend of First Responders (his continued endorsement by the WSCFF and numerous firefighter and police locals are a strong testament to his dedication). Congressman Reichert has been there for First Responders and will be there for us in the future as well!

    firemannotfirefighter,

Based on what you say is Reichert’s long-time “friendship” of first responders, which makes sense since he was a cop himself before becoming a congressman, then Chris Gillis is absolutely correct that Reichert (not you or anyone else) needs to be the one to explain his “No!” vote on HR 847.

Come on Dave, tell us why you denied healthcare bucks for the 9/11 heroes!

P.S. firemannotfirefighter, why don’t you want to be known as a “firefighter”?

  3. Out of all the members in congress you woud think he would have been their biggest supporter

  4. blakeshouse says:

While Dave is one of the biggest RINOs in congress he knew better than to vote for a bill that had added taxes having nothing to do woith the first responders health care. Typical trick of the socialists, add something extraneous to the bill and then claim oponents are against the main issue. any cheap trick in the book,.Work pretty well around here with the lack of perspective of Wa. voters. Again if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anyhting and that is what the socialist/marxists are counting on.

  5. madmike272 says:

It was because the damned democrats were attaching pork to the end of the bill, as usual.

  6. Sumner401 says:

reichart is nothing more than all republicans, a robot. He will never vote for our interests or those of the nation, he will vote how he is told to vote by the GOP.
    rossi will do the same.

  7. Yada, yada, yada . . . What else was in the bill?

If you believe “any” political ad is accurate you need a refresher course in politics!

  8. pen_mightier_than_sword says:

The Tea Party will vote for felons, mentally ill, extremists–even a former child molester if it meant the politician would vote to slash taxes, eliminate the minimum wage, hate gays, eliminate the EPA and the FDA and get rid of unions. The austerity measures supported by the Tea Party would force state, local and national governments to lay off millions of employees.

  9. Republicans and Democrats are incapable of independent thoughts!

  10. DubyaFTW says:

    pen_mightier:

You say that like its a bad thing!
