Pierce Transit has stated that it had to lay off some managers and assistant managers to save some money during this recession. Six 20-years-plus employees were laid off. Then Pierce Transit hired seven new employees. Now it is hiring 50 new operators. Where is the saved money?

There is a training staff that is highly qualified to train and has been for years. No one listened to them when they stated what it takes to train a class of this size. One of the employees laid off was the manager of safety and training). It is called training now, not safety and training.

He was replaced by two women (human resource analysts) the agency hired to run a costly program called PT University. They have never driven a bus and are not licensed to so. Where is the money saved?

Now Pierce Transit is using service supervisors and bus operators to help in the training. The operators helping will have to have their runs covered by another operator. Where is all the money saved by the layoff’s?

Pierce Transit is going broke all right. It has to do with the way the new leadership is spending the money. I used to be a member of the safety and training team myself (when it was a team). Lucky for me I retired in June 2004.
