ELECTION: Watch who you give those matches to

With all the talk about the Democrats’ impending defeat at the polls this November I would like to caution fellow voters about who they’ll potentially send back to Washington. Do you want to give back power to the party that was overwhelmingly responsible for the majority of our nation’s woes (unjustified war, disastrous financial and environmental deregulations, inept governance and a ruined economy that will haunt us for years)?

Over the past 18 months, President Obama has been tasked with solving a myriad of catastrophes spawned under George W. Bush’s eight years, and no thanks to the right-wing noise machine and continual Republican obstructionism, it appears that our nasty hangover is still with us.

What are the Republicans’ solutions to these crises? Why, it’s the same old formula that they had for the past eight years. That recipe didn’t work, unless you are in the top 5 percent of income earners.

The Republican playbook has been to use all those wedge issues (currently the mosque, immigration, gays in the military, Obama’s religion) to inflame the passions of those whose votes they need, but watch what happens afterwards. Our economic house keeps burning down while we’re distracted with the latest outrage.

Let’s keep the economic arsonists out of the building. Hold on to the matches with your vote.
