VOTING: Extra effort worth it on military ballots

Re: “Overseas ballot battle” (TNT, 9-2).

Kudos to Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson and her staff for having the foresight in pre-planning to ensure the county’s 9,050 military and overseas voters will get their ballots in time to meet the 45-day advance mailing deadline and virtually guarantee their ballots will be counted.

The auditor’s extra work and any overtime involved to tweak the ballots and meet the deadline pays tribute to the many military voters serving in harm’s way all over the world and in combat in places like Afghanistan. We need to remember that those military voters are fighting for the very right of all Americans to vote and have it count.

I for one, as a retired military offiicer, appreciate the dedication and astute management we have in the Pierce County auditor’s office, and I’m sure many Pierce County military and overseas voters will feel the same come Nov. 2.

Noone deserves to receive their absentee voting ballots more than our men & women in the armed forces! Washington’s Sec of State needs to focus all their efforts on meeting the 45 day requirement – no excuse acceptable!!

    Much to do about nothing.

It’s not surprising the Republicans are wasting time on a non-issue. They don’t have anything else to offer but criticism.

  3. Mr. San Souci (what an interesting name. It means without worry does it not?) —

Thanks for your letter. Let’s hope nothing mysterious happens to these ballots upon their return as well.

With all due respect to the military in harm’s way, could you explain how being in Afghanistan protects our right to vote and have it count?

Seems to me that people like Bev Harris of blackboxvoting.org are doing that a little more directly.

With 99% of the ballots making it on time One has to wonder why the GOP propaganda network (fox noise) is drumming up phony outrage! over what really isn’t a problem and never has been?
