ELECTION: Incident is no reason to vote no

Re: “Peninsula firefighter fired over conference incident” (TNT, 8-14).

I hope the voters of Fire District 16 understand this incident has nothing to do with the vote to reauthorize funding to provide service to the citizens of the Key Peninsula.

If the people of Key Peninsula want any fire department service to their homes they should support and vote yes today. If not they may end up waiting an hour for an ambulance or fire truck to arrive on scene.

I don’t look forward to the possibility of having to drive a family member to the hospital because the ambulance has four other calls in front of mine or watching my house burn down because the fire truck available is on another call.

All of our fire insurance premiums will most likely go up. End result: It would be less expensive to vote yes and get the fire department protection or just give the money to an insurance company because of reduced availability of service.

Today’s vote is about reauthorizing existing service, not adding new services or spending extra money.

the shy will not fall if you vote NO. People are just taking themselves to the hospital because the firefighters are not properly drug tested. We have a hospital in our back yard. We can afford to cut back the size of the EMS services.
