Re: “Puyallup Fair seeks zoning changes” (TNT, 8-8).

This year the Puyallup Fair leaders are announcing their latest thrill ride. Sounds exciting, right? Well, only those residents in the fair’s proposed redesignated/zoning boundary area are eligible to ride. And it’s not optional; it’s mandatory.

Oh, and there’s no lap belt, just a blindfold and a straight vertical drop – of property values.

The name of the ride: “The Events Center.”

Residents are being forced on a ride rolled out by the fair as a “planning” measure. Under the fair’s proposal, existing low-density residential homes would be redesignated/rezoned as “events center” with very little public process and involvement.

I’ve got a ride for the fair called “The Common Sense.” The boundaries they can incorporate into their master plan already exist on every map they’ve put before the public. You’ll find it labeled as “fair-owned property.”

That will be four tickets, please.
