On Aug. 17, voters have the power to continue the outstanding service our Lakewood Fire Department provides.
I have been privileged to have observed the workings of this dedicated group of public servants for the past 10 years. They have constantly amazed the citizens they respond to with the emergency service. The letters of appreciation and thanks come into the district telling the story of caring and professional firefighters.
We now have the chance to keep this great service by voting for the continuation of the fire levy this month. If by chance this levy should not pass, 25 percent of the operating budget would be lost and drastic cuts would have to be made to accommodate this shortfall.
The district has already trimmed its budget to meet the recent economic downturn, and a further reduction would do nothing but hurt our very needed service from our firefighters. Please join the citizens of Lakewood by supporting this levy on the ballot.
