ISRAEL: Where’s outrage over terrorists’ atrocities?

Letter by Stanley A. Bloustine, University Place on Aug. 2, 2010 at 10:23 am with 7 Comments »

Several letter writers have supported the Olympia Food Co-op’s boycott of Israeli products related to Israel’s supposedly inhumane blockade of Gaza. I believe these writers lack understanding of history and context.

Hamas, the terrorist group which controls Gaza, has as its avowed goal, not the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, but the total destruction of Israel.

When Israel’s forces and settlers left Gaza a few years ago, Hamas responded by launching hundreds of rockets at civilian targets in Israel. All countries have the right of self defense. Imagine our government’s response if terrorists launched rockets into America from Mexico.

Comparing Israel’s policies to apartheid is obscene. Apartheid was a decades-long, unconscionable program by the white minority to control the the black majority. Israel’s policies vis-à-vis Gaza are short-term tactical measures to protect its citizens and get the Palestinians to the negotiating table. Remember, Israel is the only true democracy in the Middle East and is a steadfast ally of the U.S.

This is not a battle between Islam and Israel. About 20 percent of Israel’s citizens are Arabs (mostly Muslims) who practice their religion freely with all the other rights and privileges of citizenship. This is a battle between a small democratic state trying to survive against hostile states like Iran and terrorist groups like Hamas which celebrate the killing of Israeli citizens.

These groups don’t tolerate dissent or express interest in compromise. Where is the co-op’s outrage over their atrocities?

a small democratic state trying to survive

ummmm……….and that is why they are expanding the illegal settlements in the West Bank(?)

As far as “democratic state”…….it is if you are a Jewish citizen…..not so much if you are a citizen of another ethnic group…..it is most “democratic” if you are a Ashkenazi……but only if you don’t insist upon using your privilege of free speech to speak out against your government’s policies.

  2. stetsonwalker says:

But the sincere belief of Israel or Jewish teaching is not for the annihilation of all Hamas. They can live in peace as long as they don’t throw bombs or shoot people. Seems reasonable to me.

  3. larsman says:

Bb thinks that the Ashkenazim is the 13th “lost” Euro-tribe. Got to go back a lot further than this millennium. Arab and Muslim citizens in Israel are afforded the same equal status that Jews have, as opposed to the rights of Jews, Christians or atheists in any other Muslim or Arab country surrounding Israel. Jerusalem is never mentioned in the Koran as a Holy city for Islam but Jerusalem is mentioned hundred’s of times in the Bible as The Holy City. You want construction stopped in Israel? Then tell all of Your family and relatives to stop having children and cram them all into your house while all of your neighbors blame You for existing.

Then why do I keep reading articles from Israeli writers saying the opposite?

  5. So terrorists from Mexico have invaded us, and what is our gooberment doing about it. Nothing cept putting up billboards warning people to stay away.

Barack needs to send the army down there and wipe out anyone who is not her with permission.

Kill um all and we would have less of a drug problem, more safty and cash for the people of America.

I don’t practice any religion so I think I can look at the situation in an even-handed manner, and I agree completely with you comments, Mr, Bloustine. Unfortunately, there are some like Beerboy who would find a way to blame America if rockets were being fired into the U.S. killing innocent Americans.(Except for his family I’m sure.)

  7. beerBoy says:

erkhud – your metaphor would be better if you said so America has been expanding into all of the desireable areas in Mexico with illegal settlements, has built a wall past the Rio claiming even more territory, has controlled all of the roads forcing Mexicans to go through military checkpoints and has “given” the Mexicans a small province that is tightly guarded to live in…..

Zillahboy – your “argument” is not cogent.
