ELECTIONS: Republicans block vital disclosure

Letter by Robert M. Brown, Fircrest on July 29, 2010 at 8:41 am with 24 Comments »

Republicans have successfully blocked the vote for the DISCLOSE Act, using the specious argument that it denies us the right of free speech.

Their actions mean that corporations, under names like Citizens United, will have ever louder voices in the election process because money talks. What the Republicans’ agenda means is that citizens will listen to commercials on their television sets and have no certain idea who is bringing them the message.

Everyone has always had free speech; I’m one voter who would like to know who’s talking!

  1. Sumner401 says:

The republicans only hope of winning elections is to do what they have always done, buy them.
Every republican is bought and paid for and negative campaigns cost a ton of money.

  2. uratroll says:

So they use commecials, so what. Democrats don’t? It’s better than using ACORN to get fraudulent votes or the intimidation tactics of nightstick wielding Black Panthers to deny those the right to vote.

  3. MarksonofDarwin says:

This is all about incumbent Democrats silencing any criticism before the upcoming Nov. elections….period.

This bill was a rush job. It was brought straight to the Senate floor without any type of hearings or debate.

It also provides exemptions for select groups like unions and the NRA.

There’s much about this bill that stinks, and should have us all questioning the motives and wisdom in passing it.

Not to worry, all partisan hacks will delighted to learn that the Dems. plan on bringing this back up after the Aug. recess. They are hoping to ram it through in time to protect all those incumbents who have become deities to the faithful adherents to this new and exciting secular religion of partisan politics.

  4. nwcolorist says:

    Oh dear me.

Do you mean to say that the big corporations are now free to politically advertise? You mean just like big labor, attorneys, and public school teachers have been doing for years?

What is this world coming to?

  5. the3rdpigshouse says:

Oh My!! Those terrible big ole Republicans want the same capabilities to influence an election as the corrupt socialist democrats have been trying for decades (and quite successfully I might add) – not truthful, but successful!!

Wake up folks, that marxist socialist “OH-Bummer” and his hoard of anti-American socialists/communists are bent on transforming a once great nation into some bastardized Jeremiah redistribution society of the radical & racist left!!!

  6. Sumner401 says:

using ACORN to get fraudulent votes or the intimidation tactics of nightstick wielding Black Panthers to deny those the right to vote.

Which of course everyone knows didn’t happen, but hey don’t let the truth get in your way.

  7. Sumner401 says:

Makes a person wonder just what it is about free speech that scares the right so much?

  8. Bob, how about dinner some time? I’ll buy.

  9. piggy is at it again with total confusion. First it is “socialist democrats” which equates to the 3rd Reich, then it is “marxist socialist” which is Communism. Anyone with half a brain knows that the two entities quoted above were mortal enemies. So piggie, what is it, or more likely do you have any idea?

  10. the3rdpigshouse says:

FYI – socialist democrat is an abbreviation for socialist/communist anti-American democrat!! If you can’t see where these leftist whack-jobs are taking the nation – you are part of the problem!

  11. the3rdpigshouse says:

FYI – if you do not understand the information being provided, it matters little who provides the info! First, become educated on the critical elements of the election and the candidates & you won’t have a problem making the right choices! The idiots who put this marxist/socialist “OH-Bummer” in office did absolutely “NO” research on what the individal represented before running out and voting for undefined hope & change and an individual with anti-American upbringing by anti-American radicals in our midst!! You screwed up and now it is time to run these maggots out of dodge!!

  12. My, my, piggie lost his cool. Now what are we to do? He rants and he raves with no substance to be found. When he uses un-American I wonder if he knows how much he sounds like Joe McCarthy who was completely discredited even by his peers.
Go back to school piggie and try to stay awake this time.

  13. the3rdpigshouse says:

The time of Joe McCarthy was a time of communist sympathisers within society that properly needed to be identified and expunged from positions of responsibility!!

  14. artsandcrafts says:

The democrat’s only hope of winning elections is to do what they have always done, buy them… or find boxes of ballots at the 11th hour… or deny military the right to vote. Every democrat is bought and paid for and negative campaigns cost a ton of money, then there’s the free campaigning hosted by folks like Babba Wawwa…

  15. Sumner401 says:

You have anything to back up your childish attacks italianspring or is that the best you can muster?

  16. Sumner401 says:

Publico, I think you might be the only one that reads pigs…..’stuff’.

  17. artsandcrafts says:

    Besides you sumn?

  18. artsandcrafts says:

    … I guess that’s the same ;)

  19. artsandcrafts says:

The democrats only hope of winning elections is to do what they have always done, buy them… that and “find” a box of ballots at the 11th hour… or don’t count overseas military ballots.
Every democrat is bought and paid for and negative campaigns cost a ton of money. Then there’s the free campaigning allah Babwa Wawwa and co.

(so moderator, teabagger is ok but not bedwetter?)

  20. uratroll says:

Which of course everyone knows didn’t happen, but hey don’t let the truth get in your way.

You are surely a fool and I for one am glad you open your mouth and remove all doubt. Your hypocrisy knows know bounds.

  21. I think Tony and Sum by be “related?”

  22. Sumner401 says:

I think Tony and Sum by be “related?”

    LOL!!
And you claim to be an educator!!??

  23. the3rdpigshouse says:

Sumner401 – you of all respondents here could not recognize an educator!!

  24. Sumner401 says:

Nothing but attacks from the far right, as usual.
