FREEDOM FAIR: Event can be saved

In your online Freedom Fair poll (TNT, 7-11), a majority wanted to scrap or scale back the event. I am not sure how representative the sampling was but doubt many of the people casting a vote were children or young families who populate the event.

Had a fourth choice been offered – “Start a grass-roots campaign among small businesses to support the event” – there may have been a different result. As Patrick O’Callahan’s Inside Opinion blog posting Saturday noted, my law firm is trying to ignite such a campaign.

The Freedom Fair has many large business sponsors whom we should thank, but Tacoma and Pierce County do not have mega-companies like Microsoft or Starbucks that can write big checks for local events. We do have thousands of professional, business and working people who can write small checks. I hope every one of them will respond with a donation of $100 or $200.

Let’s not look back next year and say, “Gee, it’s too bad the Freedom Fair isn’t around any longer.”

The website address for donations is www.freedomfair.com and at that site is a “Donate” button. Sign on and hit it!

  1. as far as i am concerned, ask the people who live in the area that his “fair” is dumped on whether they want it.
