I was shocked to read Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy’s quote (TNT, 7-3). “At all costs” is by no means our rallying cry. The Friends of Sprinker are in no way going to be used by the executive and the County Council to raise the taxes of the citizens of Pierce County.
We elected them to make tough decisions and now is that time. They spent $92 million on the Chambers Bay Golf/sewer complex, and now they want to shut down parks that real people use.
The county thrust is debt on Sprinker. In fact, nearly half the payroll attributed to Sprinker comes from other parks offices. Why? Good people manage Sprinker; let them do their jobs.
We will not support further taxation of the public. Do what it takes to fix this problem. Passing it on to voters is the easy way out.
