TRAFFIC: What happened to funding shovel-ready projects?

Reporter Brent Champaco details several of the locations in which access/egress from Joint Base Lewis McChord can be made more efficient through road construction projects. He reports, “But the bulk of the project (i.e. cross-base link) remains unfunded. Local legislators were thwarted trying to get $1.5 million in last year’s state transportation budget.”

Unfunded? Yet over half of the so-called federal “stimulus” fund has yet to be allocated. Why or under what circumstances was Washington’s application – assuming our state made one – disallowed or disqualified from federal so-called Obama stimulus funds?

How have our state’s federal representatives been involved in any application or petition?

In all the publicity to which we citizens were lavished during president Obama’s rhetoric on how the spending of nearly $900 billion was going to “stimulate” by spending for “shovel ready” construction, we need to be informed regarding whether any of these projects – in particular, the cross-base link –, were considered for such “stimulus” funds? And if not, why not?

  1. I believe that what Obama’s administration considers “shovel ready jobs” is scooping up little balls of oil along the Gulf coast.

  2. Sumner401 says:

Complain about the money when it isn’t spent, complain about the money when it is.
Can the right do anything except complain?
BTW, cross base project isn’t ‘shovel ready’. (It’s two words, why the difficulty?)

  3. Nit Picker. I don’t care how many words it is. It is apparently too many words for Obama to remember. I mean, didn’t he say the stimulus would put people back to work? The only jobs he has created is taking the census, temporary jobs. Great work Obama!

  4. Obamacare is going to create a plethora of shovel ready jobs…

  5. Leper, did you mean like— in the cemetaries? I agree, great analogy.

  6. the3rdpigshouse says:

Less than 50% of the “stimulus” monies have been allocated – the balance will be retained for the reelection campaign of the marxist/secialist “OH-Bummer”!!!! That anti-American could care less about the unemployed and the generally poor condition of the U.S. economy!

Wake up America – if you are pro-American – vote against the socialist democrat party!!!

  7. larsman says:

The census workers (sic) are not quite done filling in the blanks that should not be filled in, but when that is done they will be bussed over here for temporary road construction just as soon as they finish(?) collecting tar-balls on the beach. So just hold yer breath y’all…

  8. Little did we know that he considered freedom and capitalism shovel ready jobs, frosty.

  9. But…..”State’s Rights!”

Oh….wait a minute…..it is WA state officials that have held up the spending of the funds…..well, let’s blame Obama anyway!

  10. ItallianSpring, we have’nt see anything yet, I’m wondering when they will insert the hammer and sickle into the stars and stipes. (and maybe even a shovel).

  11. Birch lives…..sigh.
