SPRINKER: County shouldn’t wait to renovate center

Pierce County says it is going to try to find the the funds to renovate Sprinker Recreation Center. If it does, it would take a year to find funding and another year to renovate. That’s two years that the building will be closed and without revenue.

Sprinker makes money, unlike the Chambers Bay Golf Club that the county keep sticking money into in hopes that the U.S. Open tournament will come in 2015. Is that a for-sure thing? Until then it will most likely lose more money.

Pierce County shouldn’t put more money into a sinking hole. Find the money without a new tax and start the renovations for Sprinker right now.

It is a fact that more people use Sprinker yearly than Chambers Bay. If the county had renovated it years ago and put in the second rink, Sprinker could have hosted major events and made more money for Pierce County.

The county needs to take care of what it has before opening any new parks. Why wait?

Not one single advocate for Sprinker has come forward with honest figures, and it is no small wonder.

I challange anyone to provide factual data as to what the ice rink portion of Sprinker cost vs. what revenue just the rink generates.

Let’s talk apples and apples for a change. Let the people make an informed decission. TELL THE TRUE FIGURES! Stop thinking we are idiots.

If the REAL figures don’t support your cause, it is what it is.

  2. If the U.S. golf open golf tournament and I say ,IF, does materialize in 2015,you can equate that to putting a down payment on a vehicle. You still have maintenance costs and you have to keep the payments going on a depreciating object. Now it would help if you had someone with deep pockets that you tap to bail you out.

  3. I would like to see an audit report on the Sprinker Center. Like what is the yearly cost to operate and maintain the center. Now show us the amount the center gets from taxes and how much does the center receive from entry fees. This also should tell us how to prepare to pay back the debt we will aquire when the center is reabilitated or replaced.

The golf course served 38k people last year and ran 800k in the red. sprinker served 330k people and ran 1.4 million in the red. You do the math.

  5. Concernedfather says:

It is futile to do the math when you are not providing real numbers.
I hope you don’t make up figures like this when you do your tax return.

  6. Concernedfather says:

If Sprinker is running 1.4 million in the red, how is it that your group claims that it supports 50% of the entire PC Parks and Rec budget? Hmmm

Judge Judy says, “You don’t have to have a good memory if you tell the truth”

You forget, again, the huge number of people who use the Chambers Bay facility for other types of recreation. I submit that it is an astounding number. That fact will substantially change your false numbers.

For those that don’t pay attention. Chambers Bay does not lose money. If the TNT correctly reported the money it makes that is “off the books” like the $1.5 million paid to U. Place in taxes, and the hotel, motel, car rental and sales and admission taxes paid, then you would see it made money every year. Further it is part of the Sewer Fund, and none of that money can go to Sprinker which is part of the General Fund. The General Fund is made up mostly of sales and property taxes, so I guess you could find out how much sales tax Chambers Bay generated and credit that towards support of Sprinker. But the TNT won’t publish such numbers because it goes against it’s policy of bashing Chambers and not pointing out to people that no money spent on Chambers could ever go to Parks like Sprinker. Just won’t sell papers.

  9. redneckbuck says:

the golf course runs 800k in the red plus 2.5 Million demanded fixes. The public park requires maintanence on top of these costs.

  10. redneckbuck says:

The Chambers Bay golf comples was responsible for overcharging sewer customers 55 million dollars over the last five years. For what????? So middle aged white guys with last names like Ladenburg can make money.
