UPLACE: Time to become an open government

Knowing that the public has a very low trust level for the current University Place government, I find it very interesting that the University Place City Council has decided to hold a Special Council Meeting with one day notice and abnormal starting time. What in the world are they thinking?

The Council has stated that they are for Open Government, have held workshops and conversed with the Attorney General’s office about the OPMA rules. The message this sends to constituents is that the items that are going to be discussed would rather not be done in front of the public. If not why the change? If it is due to council members not being available at the regular time, who cares. They don’t need all council members present, they only need a quorum.

If it was changed so that it made sure that certain items on the agenda would pass due to who is able to attend then shame on them. It is time to stop the ball & shell game and start working FOR the people that voted them into office.
