TACOMA: City Council misguided about Arizona

We just got back from five months in beautiful Arizona. As a longtime resident of Tacoma, I could not believe that the Tacoma City Council would waste its time jumping on the bandwagon to condemn Arizona for passing Senate Bill 1070.

If anyone were to live in the Phoenix area and listen to the local news, they would soon understand what has so frustrated and infuriated the citizens of that state: the murders by alien gangs, the robberies, the smuggling across the border of hundreds of frightened people by the ruthless bands of “coyotes,” the drug traffickers turning the ranching area south of Tucson into a no-man’s land. The list goes on and on.

Unlike most people, including our president, I actually read SB 1070. It essentially states that Arizona will enforce existing federal immigration laws. It does not allow law enforcement officials to randomly check peoples immigration status, unless there is probable cause that a public offense has been committed.

There are enough issues involving our own city without the City Council so sanctimoniously sticking its nose in an issue of which it knows nothing about or is any of its business, If anything, the council should ask the Washington congressional delegation what it is doing to support federal Immigration law enforcement.

The party line for socialist democrats (right from “OH-Bummer”) is to deny reading the Arizona law and therefore you cannot be held accountable for either lying or just plain stupidity for lack of understanding of the english language!!!

In one aspect, this declaration has been an informative process because it has cast a light on the true political leanings of our city counsel members.

Walker, Mello, Strickland, Fey and Woodards are liberals who are out of the mainstream with 80% of Tacoma residents. Boe is never sure when to vote or when to recuse himself, (he votes on issues he worked on when he should have abstained, like Cheney Stadium, and then says he is against this resolution, but votes “abstain”.)

Lonegren and Campbell are rational, non-emotional guys who understand who they represent.

And, buy the way, the parade of non-english speaking supporters of this declaration only served to prove to me that Tacoma has a serious illegal immigration problem too.

Voters need to remember this vote – who on the counsel is ignoring the views of the citizens and who is not.

  4. BigSwing, Amen! The Deputy Mayor needs a course on reading as well. It’s embarrassing to watch that crowd in action. Lonegren and Campbell as you said bring some decorum to the panel.

When I read this letter to my friends in Scottsdale they suggested you might not have seen much of Arizona and probably were badly informed by the people where you were. Arizona has always been a high-crime, corrupt state and it isn’t the fault of immigrants.

Why would you make the arrogant assumption that the President hasn’t read the Arizona law. You obviously have no understanding of the issues this misguided legislation raises.
