PIERCE COUNTY: Council takes right approach

Re: “Pierce County Council may weigh in on illegal immigration” (TNT, 5-20).

I commend the council for taking a positive stand instead of wasting time, money and effort on some idiotic boycott. This resolution addresses the problem of employers who are not doing due diligence.

The federal government refuses to address the problem and care for its citizens with proper border patrol and employer enforcement. States, counties and cities must take action when the federal government is failing to fulfill its responsibilities.

I don’t care if you are conservative or liberal, Democrat or Republican: The handwriting is on the wall, and both sides of the aisle are failing miserably. If we do not secure our southern border and slap the hands of the unscrupulous employers, we are going to go broke or be in serious trouble.

What our president and the president of Mexico should concentrate on is not bad-mouthing Arizona but, instead, controlling the border and the level of violence in those Mexican border towns.
