OIL SPILL: Cleanup could get a little hairy

The recent Gulf of Mexico oil spill may be the most catastrophic environmental mishap in our country’s history. Untold numbers of aquatic mammals and birds will suffer and die from the oily residue as a result of the spill.

Recently, I learned of a surprising and innovative way to clean up the oil and help clean the wildlife. It’s all about hair, a natural oil absorber. Hair clippings are used to fill nylons to create hair booms and hair mats.

Hair salons and pet groomers can sign up with the nonprofit Matter of Trust (www.matteroftrust.org) to donate hair clippings. I encourage salons all over the region to sign up and help clean up the oil and save wildlife.

  1. On the oil well cap, That iced up, they need to add a heater core in the top of the cap on the inside to keep ice from forming. It is done on a lot of things to keep ice from building up. Thanks Cecil
