Sprinker Recreation Center

Replacing the 34-year-old facility could cost $34 million or more, and while there are architectural drawings, there is no formal plan to build it, no way to to pay for construction, county officials say.


Hike of the week

Directions: Drive I 90 east to exit 45 (Bandera Air Field). Go off freeway and under it, then straight ahead on road No. 9030. At a split in one mile, go straight ahead on road No. 9031. Trailhead is 3.8 miles from I 90.


New apartment complex

The 254-unit complex is across the street from Clover Park Technical College and close to McChord Air Force Base, Fort Lewis and Camp Murray. It’s on the northeast corner of Steilacoom Boulevard and Lakewood Drive.

The complex’s three recreation buildings include an indoor gym, a basketball/volleyball court, a business center, a club house lounge and an outdoor pool and spa area.


Historic building

Tacoma’s historic post office building at 1102 A St. has been the site of legal drama and import since it opened in 1910 as a multi-purpose federal building. A hundred years later, it’s in the hands of a private owner who is setting the stage for its future.


Barista robbers

An armed robber is suspected of holding up 10 espresso stands since late March, including robberies Wednesday on South Hill and in Fircrest.
