VIDEO: 16-year-old shoots magical ’59′ at Pinehurst No. 1

Will Grimmer, of Cincinnati, Ohio, shot an 11-under 59 at the Junior North and South Amateur earlier this week at Pinehurst No. 1 (for the record, the 2014 U.S. Open right before Chambers Bay will be held at Pinehurst No. 2).

He had a hole-out eagle-2 on No. 8 (his 17th), and drained a 20-foot putt at the finishing hole (No. 9) to shoot 59. He finished with 10 birdies, one eagle and one bogey.

Grimmer did not win the tournament.

Lots of birdies, very few bogeys – and Peck crowned 112th PNGA Men’s Amatuer champion

He put his name on the same trophy as Tiger Woods in 2008 – and Olympia’s Cameron Peck did it again Thursday.

Waiting out Hans Reimers’ early hot streak, then turning on the jets at the end of the morning round, Peck finished off his stellar week with a 7-and-6 victory in the championship finals of the 112th Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on the Oregon coast.

When Peck needed to make birdies – he made them. More importantly, when Reimers showed signs of slipping, Peck – the reigning Washington State Men’s Amateur champion – won

Peck stays steady in wind, will play for PNGA Men’s Amateur title

If winning is contagious, Olympia’s Cameron Peck is certainly feeling the fever.

Peck, a Timberline High graduate who just finished up his playing career at Texas A&M, won the Washington State Men’s Amateur title on a links-style golf course two weeks ago at Chambers Bay Golf Course – and is one the verge of another big amateur win again.

He dismissed Seattle’s Kyle Bowser, 6 and 5, in the morning quarterfinal round, then defeated Bainbridge Island’s Carl Jonson, 4 and 3, in the afternoon semifinal round to advance to the finals of the 112th Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur at Bandon

Peck, Jonson survive windy Bandon Dunes to reach PNGA Men’s Amateur quarterfinals

Breezy or windy?

Just ask the guy who just finished his four-year golf career at Texas A&M – Olympia’s Cameron Peck – to know the difference. He has seen a lot of it this week at the 112th Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur at challenging Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on the Oregon coast.

“It is windy in Texas, but it kind of gusts,” Peck said. “Here it is a constant, hard wind.”

Peck, a Timberline High School graduate, reached the quarterfinals Tuesday with a victory in 20 holes over Oregon high school star Dylan Wu, of Medford.

He moves on to
