This week: John Deere Classic, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Deere Run, Silvis, Ill.
Gonzales’ second-round score: 2-under-par 69.
Moore’s second-round score: 1-under 70.
Stanley’s second-round score: 3-over 74.
Position: Moore (5-under 137) is tied for 36th, seven strokes behind co-leaders Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson and Patrick Reed (12-under 130). Gonzales (3-under 139, tied for 72nd) and Stanley (5-over 147, tied for 141st) missed the cut.
Recap: On a day of extreme low scoring – 12 rounds of 65 or lower were posted – Moore appeared headed that way, too. He holed out from 80 yards for eagle on his opening hole. But he ran into trouble at No. 18 when his approach shot leaked left into the lake, and he also made a late bogey at No. 7. … When it is going tough, it seems like the breaks go the other way. Gonzales birdied the eighth hole (9-iron approach to 10 feet), then made an 8-footer on his final hole to save par to get into the clubhouse at 3-under. Much of the day, that number stood as the cut-line score – until late Friday. … Stanley did something in a PGA Tour he had never done before – go without making a birdie or a bogey. He made 17 pars after starting with a triple bogey at the first hole.
Moore’s tee time Saturday: 7:31 a.m. PDT off the first tee.
Next for Stanley, Gonzales: Stanley is in the field for next week’s British Open at Muirfield in East Lothian, Scotland. Gonzales plays in the PGA Tour event opposite the British Open – the Sanderson Farms Championship at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss.
