This week: U.S. Open, Thursday through Sunday, Merion Golf Club East Course, Ardmore, Pa.
Moore’s first-round score: 9-over-par 79.
Stanley’s first-round score: Even-par through seven holes.
Position: Moore is in 152nd place, and Stanley is tied for 16th – all trailing leader Luke Donald (4-under through 13 holes).
Recap: The day was miserable, and Merion East was as harrowing as her reputation stated. After the morning 31/2-hour delay, Moore returned to tap in for par at the second hole, then proceeded to go bogey at No. 3, double bogey at No. 4, double bogey at No. 5 and bogey at No. 6 to immediately fall to 6-over through six holes. Both double bogeys were set up by drives that landed in the rough. It was Moore’s highest score ever at a U.S. Open, replacing the 78 he shot at Oakmont Country Club in 2007.
Tee times Friday: First-round action is scheduled to resume at 7:15 a.m. EDT.
