This week: Valero Texas Open, Thursday through Sunday, TPC San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas.

Stanley’s first-round score: 2-over-par 74.

Gonzales’ first-round score: 3-over 75.

Kelly’s first-round score: 6-over 78.

Position: Stanley is tied for 76th, Gonzales is tied for 96th and Kelly is tied for 139th – all trailing leader Matt Bettencourt (67).

Recap: TPC San Antonio doesn’t have the reputation of a Torrey Pines South Course, or Innisbrook Copperhead Course – but it is one of the toughest tests the professionals see all seasons. The good news for Stanley was that he made 16 pars, so he was rarely in trouble. The unsettling news was that he made no birdies on a course that features four par-5 holes. In fact, he bogeyed the first par 5 at No. 2, even though he was right in front of the green in two shots. … Making his first PGA Tour start in almost a month, Gonzales bogeyed four of his first five holes – three of them set up by errant drives way left. He did birdie the first and third holes. … Kelly was just 1-over through 11 holes. But his round came undone at the third hole – his 12th – when he plopped two tee shots at the par 3 into a greenside pond, and made a triple bogey.

Tee times Friday: Gonzales at 7 a.m. PDT off the first tee; Kelly at 10:20 a.m. PDT off the first tee; and Stanley at 10:50 a.m. PDT off the 10th tee.
