This week: Honda Classic. Thursday through Sunday, PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Stanley’s fourth-round score: 2-over-par 70.
Position: Stanley (even-par 280) tied for 18th, nine strokes behind winner Michael Thompson (9-under 271). Kelly (1-over 141) missed the cut Friday by one stroke.
Recap: The big winner Sunday? The course – one of the hardest the PGA Tour professionals will see all season. And considering some of the high scores, Stanley’s 72 was pretty good. He eagled another par-5 hole, this time No. 3 where he made a 50-foot chip from behind the green. Then he made five bogeys over his next nine holes, but was able to produce his first top-20 finish in seven months (since a tied-for-16th showing at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational) when he hit a 6-iron close at the par-3 17th, and rolled in an 11-foot putt for birdie.
Next for Stanley: Arnold Palmer Invitational starting March 21 at Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Fla.
