This week: Waste Management Phoenix Open, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Moore’s third-round score: 6-under-par 65.
Stanley’s third-round score: 3-over 74.
Position: Moore (16-under 197) is tied for third, and Stanley (1-under 212) is tied for 73rd – all trailing leader Phil Mickelson (24-under 189). Kelly (2-under 140) missed the cut Friday.
Recap: Moore is playing one of the best tournaments of his PGA Tour career – a pair of 66s, followed by an even better score Saturday – and it appears he is playing for second place. He lost ground to Mickelson by one stroke, even though he birdied No. 17 (drove in front of the green, got up and down from 45 yards) and No. 18 (downhill 25-footer to front pin location). Moore has just one bogey in his past 45 holes. … Trailing Mickelson by 23 shots, it is obvious Stanley will not repeat in Phoenix. Teeing off on the back nine, he hit a drive so far left at the par-5 15th, it went into the water – and he made bogey to fall 2-over for his round. It did not get much better the rest of the way.
Tee times Sunday: Moore (off No. 1 tee) and Stanley (off No. 10 tee) at 9:40 a.m. PDT.
