This week: Sony Open, Thursday through Sunday, Waialae Country Club, Honolulu, Hi.
Stanley’s second-round score: 5-under-par 65.
Moore’s second-round score: 1-under 69.
Gonzales’ second-round score: Even-par 70.
Position: Stanley (2-under 138) is tied for 58th, 12 strokes behind leader Russell Henley (14-under 126). Moore (1-under 139) and Gonzales (4-over 144) missed the cut.
Recap: The season’s first clean scorecard among the locals, and Stanley registered it Friday with five birdies and no bogeys. And it all started on No. 2 – the second-hardest hole on the course – when he laced a 9-iron approach close, and sank an 8-foot putt for his first birdie. He then birdied the fifth, seventh, 10th and 18th holes. … After his 18th-hole birdie (up-and-down from behind the green, sank 7-foot putt), Moore was inside the cutline for much of the day – until it moved to 2-under late. It was the first time he had played the Sony Open since his rookie year in 2006. … Gonzales has stuff to sharpen up after four holes of double bogey or worse in two rounds, including a sixth-hole double bogey Friday. But he finished up with an eagle-3 at the par-5 ninth by sinking a 42-putt.
Stanley’s tee time Saturday: 2:20 p.m. PDT off the 10th tee.
Next for Moore, Gonzales: Moore will be off the next two weeks, but Gonzales will tee it up at next week’s Humana Challenge at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
