This week: Sony Open, Thursday through Sunday, Waialae Country Club, Honolulu, Hi.
Moore’s first-round score: Even-par 70.
Stanley’s first-round score: 3-over 73.
Gonzales’ first-round score: 4-over 74.
Position: Moore is tied for 71st, Stanley is tied for 124th and Gonzales is tied for 130th – all trailing leader Scott Langley (62).
Recap: All three locals played afternoon rounds Thursday when the winds kicked up a bit. None of them really got on any birdie-making streaks, either. Moore salvaged his round by rolling in a 25-foot, right-to-left eagle putt on his final hole at No. 9 for eagle. … You’d have to assume Stanley will go through a bit of an adjustment period with his new Nike equipment, especially his irons. He made five final-nine bogeys (Nos. 1, 4, 6-8) on holes where he hit no greens in regulation. In fact at the par-3 fourth hole (180 yards), he was 30 yards short of the green after his tee shot. … Welcome back to the PGA Tour, Andres. He had five birdies, but also a pair of double bogeys – and a triple bogey at the sixth hole where he hooked his drive out of bounds and had to take a penalty stroke. He did roll in a 50-foot putt at No. 17 for a final birdie.
Tee times Friday: Moore at 10:50 a.m. PDT off the first tee, Stanley at 11 a.m. PDT off the first tee and Gonzales at 11:50 a.m. PDT off the 10th tee.
