Tidbits and news nuggets on Kyle Stanley heading into 2013

Got Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley by telephone as he was celebrating the winter holiday in Spokane.

Here are some developments:

* The Bellarmine Prep product said he is finally settled in his new digs in Scottsdale, Ariz. And while he said initially he missed South Carolina a lot, the move made too much sense – his family is on the West Coast.

Also, he just joined a new golf club called Silverleaf, a new Tom Weiskopf design that plays at elevation and overlooks the city skyline.

* How did Stanley grade his 2012 season in which he won the Waste Management Phoenix Open, then went a 31/2-month stretch where his best finish was a tied-for-48th at the St. Jude Classic (with seven of his 10 missed cuts)?

“Good,” he said, “not necessarily from a golf standpoint but from a learning standpoint.”

In retrospect, Stanley said he played so much golf early that it kind of took a lot out of him heading into the late spring and summer months.

* With that being said, Stanley said he will play the first five tournaments of the PGA Tour season, starting with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, followed by the Sony Open, Humana Challenge, Farmers Insurance Open and finally defending at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Stanley loves the “West Coast” swing. He has made nine of 10 cuts in the past two seasons.

“I love the courses,” Stanley said. “It is tough for me to take weeks off because a lot of the courses set up (so well) for me.”

* He is keeping pretty much the same team around him since the U.S. Open – agent Brad Buffoni, veteran caddie Dave Woosley, swing instructor Mike Taylor and mental coach Julie Elion.

* As far as the persistent rumors he is going to join the Nike stable with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, he neither confirmed or denied the move. In any case, because he is under contract with Titleist until Jan. 1, he really can’t comment.

Just have to see if he is wearing the big swoosh at Hyundai next week.
