Recap: Moore tied his best scoring round of 2011 – and he did it playing with Noh, the tournament leader. The Cascade Christian graduate did most of his birdie making early – six of them en route to a front-nine 30. What set it all up was crisp iron play, especially from the fairways. His longest birdie putt on

Blake defeats O’Meara in two extra holes to win Boeing Classic

Jay Don Blake is beginning to know he can be a stalwart on the Champions Tour.

The 53-year-old defeated Mark O’Meara in a two-hole Boeing Classic sudden-death playoff Sunday afternoon – the fourth in eight years at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge – to win his third 50-and-over tournament since last September.

Only Seattle Fred Couples can match that win total in that span.

“I do feel like I belong,” Blake said. “I feel like I can compete when I get things going well and playing well. Not in an arrogant way, but I don’t really feel like I’m intimidated by the players out here. There’s a lot of talent out here, but I just feel like … if I play my game, I can kind of be in the hunt and make it interesting.”

Well ahead of the lead groups, Blake birdied the homeward par 5s – the 15th and 18th holes – to reach 10-under. And O’Meara two-putted from 35 feet on the finishing hole to join him in a playoff at 206. Both golfers shot matching 4-under 68s in regulation.

Kelly’s fourth-round score: 2-over-par 73.

Moore’s fourth-round score: 4-over 75.

Recap: Moore’s driving let him down Sunday as he made six bogeys in his first 12 holes. Five of them were set up by errant drives (four in the rough, one in a fairway bunker). He did sink a 10-foot putt for birdie at No. 15 to finish under-par. …

Ryan Moore, Kyle Stanley, Troy Kelly at Barclays, 3rd Rd.

This week: The Barclays, Thursday through Sunday, Bethpage Black, Farmingdale, N.Y.

Moore’s third-round score: 1-under-par 70.

Kelly’s third-round score: 3-over 74.

Position: Moore (5-under 208) is tied for sixth, and Kelly (1-over 214) is tied for 43rd – all trailing leader Sergio Garcia (10-under 203). Stanley (2-over 144) missed the cut Friday.

Recap: Because Garcia has not proven to be bullet-proof with the lead, Moore is certainly right in the thick of contention in the first tournament of the FedEx Cup playoffs. And he is playing well – he is one of only golfers in the field to post under-par

Kearney rolls to three-shot triumph at Northwest Open

Oregon’s Brandon Kearney wrapped up a wire-to-wire victory by shooting a 2-under-par 70 to win the Northwest Open at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla.

It was Kearney’s biggest win as a PGA professional from Bend Golf and Country Club. He finished at 12-under 204, good enough for a three-stroke win over Darren Black (71) and Derek Barron (70) at 207.

Barron is a Puyallup product who teaches out of Tacoma Firs Golf Center.

The low round of the day belonged to Tacoma’s Todd Erwin, who shot 69 and placed 12th at 211.
