This week: RBC Canadian Open, Thursday through Sunday, Hamilton Golf and Country Club, Ancaster, Ontario.

First-round score: 1-over-par 71.

Position: Stanley is tied for 95th, nine strokes behind leader Scott Piercy (62).

Recap: What the general public might not understand about this co-PGA Tour sanctioned event is that it is Canada’s national championship in golf. Therefore, the courses are usually set up to stress out the participants. And since Stanley played in a major championship last week – The British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in England – he is almost playing another one this week as well. Two of his three opening-nine bogeys were set up by errant tee shots right. But the Bellarmine Prep product rallied for birdies at No. 3 (9-iron approach to 5 feet) and No. 5 (wedge from 35 yards to 21/2 feet).

Tee time Friday: 10:10 a.m. PDT off the first tee.
