Ryan Moore, Kyle Stanley at AT&T National, 3rd Rd.

This week: AT&T National, Thursday through Sunday, Congressional Country Club, Bethesda, Md.

Stanley’s third-round score: 3-under-par 68.

Moore’s third-round score: 2-over 73.

Position: Stanley (2-over 215) is tied for 31st, and Moore (8-over 221) is tied for 66th – all trailing leader Brendon de Jonge (206).

Recap: Stanley easily had his best round of the week – and was 4-under through 13 holes after his birdie at No. 4. But he had a bogey late at the par-3 seventh hole, which had a tricky pin placement back and right. … Moore had three bogeys in the first eight holes, and

Ryan Moore, Kyle Stanley at AT&T National, 2nd Rd.

This week: AT&T National, Thursday through Sunday, Congressional Country Club, Bethesda, Md.

Stanley’s and Moore’s second-round score: 4-over-par 75.

Position: Stanley (4-over 146) is tied for 59th, and Moore (6-over 148) is tied for 70th – all trailing leader Hunter Mahan (135).

Recap: Another brutal day on one of the PGA Tour’s toughest courses. By the time the two locals teed off, the track was toasty, firm and very unforgiving. Stanley’s day started with a splash – a tee shot into the lake at No. 10 – and made bogey. And his first nine holes ended on the same note

This week: AT&T National, Thursday through Sunday, Congressional Country Club, Bethesda, Md.

Stanley’s first-round score: 1-over-par 72.

Moore’s first-round score: 2-over 73.

Position: Stanley is tied for 30th, and Moore is tied for 48th – all trailing leader Bo Van Pelt (4-under 67).

Recap: The odd thing this week – Congressional Country Club might be more of a challenge for this PGA Tour stop than last year’s U.S. Open, just because the track is playing so fast and firm. Given that, Stanley and Moore did not fare too poorly Thursday. Stanley chipped in from 20 feet at No. 10 for

Nelson wins Tacoma City Amateur on second playoff hole

Puyallup’s Ben Nelson doesn’t need to play in the last group to win some of the best amateur golf tournaments in Western Washington.

He showed that again Sunday – in the final round at the 82nd Tacoma City Amateur.

Playing in front of leader Casey Adams, and main chasers Tyler Salsbury and James Feutz, it was the 21-year-old Nelson who emerged with one of the day’s best rounds – a 1-under-par 70 – at Fircrest Golf Club.

And when Adams (75), of Lacey, failed to get up and down for par from behind the 18th green in regulation, the two

Recap: A little different story for Moore this time around – a year removed from shooting a final-round 63 to lose by a stroke to winner Fredrik Jacobson. In fact, it was a steady, almost uneventful final round for the Cascade Christian graduate (three birdies, one
