This week: Wells Fargo Championship, Thursday through Sunday, Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, N.C.
Moore’s third-round score: 4-under-par 68.
Position: Moore (13-under 203) is tied for second with D.A. Points – one stroke behind leader Webb Simpson (69) at 14-under 202. Stanley (1-over 145) and Kelly (4-over 148) both missed the cut Friday.
Recap: Must be something about the state of North Carolina. Moore will go off in the final group with Simpson in pursuit of his second PGA Tour tournament title. The last one came at the 2009 Wyndham Championship just up the road in Greensboro. Much of the back nine, Moore was in or one shot off the lead. And at the water-flanked, par-3 17th, playing as the most difficult hole on the course, Moore’s 8-iron tee shot just cleared the front edge of the green, and stopped 41/2 feet from the hole. He made the birdie putt to get to 13-under, and a share of the lead – until Simpson birdied the same hole 20 minutes later. It was Moore’s first bogey-free round since the second round of the 2011 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Quoteworthy: “I’ve been progressing nicely over the last month and a half, and I’ve just been kind of waiting for the putter to kind of wake up – and it did this week,” Moore said.
Tee time Sunday: 10:35 a.m. PDT off the first tee.
