This week: Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Louisiana, Avondale, La.

Kelly’s first-round score: 3-under-par 69.

Putnam’s first-round score: 2-under 70.

Position: Kelly is tied for 15th, and Putnam is tied for 33rd – all trailing co-leaders Ken Duke and Cameron Tringale (65).

Recap: Kelly recorded his best opening round in a PGA Tour event this season since his 4-under 68 at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January. And after an early bogey Thursday, he got his round going at the fifth hole when he made a 25-foot chip from in front of the green for birdie – one of four on the day. … Putnam was much sharper in this start than he was last week after an eight-month layoff from PGA Tour action. He hit 14 of the 18 greens in regulation, and went to 3-under after rolling in a 14-foot birdie putt at No. 4 (his 13th hole). He made a late bogey to fall back.

Tee times Friday: Putnam at 6:30 a.m. PDT off the first tee, and Kelly at 6:40 a.m. PDT off the 10th tee.
