This week: Shell Houston Open, Thursday through Sunday, Redstone Golf Club’s Tournament Course, Humble, Texas.
Kelly’s third-round score: Even-par 72.
Stanley’s third-round score: 3-over 75.
Moore’s third-round score: 13-over 85.
Position: Kelly (2-under 214) is tied for 60th, Stanley (1-over 216) tied for 75th and Moore (6-over 219) finished in 88th – all trailing leader Louis Oosthuizen (17-under 201). Moore and Stanley missed the final-day cut.
Recap: Huh? Moore finished up his second round Saturday morning with a 66, and in 18th place. And a few hours later, he sank nearly all the way to the bottom of the leaderboard – and out of the tournament. He hit his tee shot in the water on the par-3 seventh hole, and walked off with double bogey. And then the head-scratching result came on the next hole – two more shots in the water from 40 yards and in, leading to a quadruple bogey, and a front-nine score of 44. Needless to say, he will have next week off by missing the Masters for the first time since 2009. … Six bogeys over his final 12 holes sent Stanley off to Augusta National Golf Club a day early. … Kelly was the steadiest of the trio (two birdies, two bogeys). And he gave himself some breathing room to making the final cut by rolling in a 35-foot putt for birdie at No. 7 – his 16th hole.
Kelly’s tee times Sunday: 5:38 a.m. PDT off the first tee.
