Recap: The Central Kitsap product’s four birdies in his first six holes were the biggest reason behind his 31-spot improvement on the leaderboard. He is in position for a season-best finish if he can record a score close to par today.

Recap: Through eight holes, Kelly was at 4-over. Then he birdied the difficult 18th hole, and made nine consecutive pars to make the cut on the nose. He needs to putt better (63 putts through two rounds) if he intends to move up the leaderboard.

Position: Kelly is tied for 51st, six strokes behind leader Will Claxton (66).

Recap: High winds ripped through the course pretty much all day, and that is why the score was relatively high on this resort course. Kelly started out with a birdie at the third hole to get to 1-under, but made bogeys at Nos. 6 and 16.

He was on the waiting list for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championships as the first alternate. Nobody withdrew.

So on Wednesday, Puyallup’s Ryan Moore committed to play in the Honda Classic – an event he has not entered since 2009.

After a long layoff in the offseason, Moore has said he wanted to play often in the early going of 2012 – and has lived up to his word. This will be his sixth PGA Tour tournament of the season.

In Moore’s last appearance at the Honda Classic, he shot rounds of 77 and 71, and missed the cut.
