Stanley moves up to 87th in world rankings; positives on horizon

Yes, Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley woke up this morning a little bummed as he makes his way to the next PGA Tour stop – the Waste Management Phoenix Open (where, no doubt, the raucous sun-soaking, beer-drinking patrons surrounding the 16th hole will remind his of last week’s crushing loss at Torrey Pines South Course).

The Bellarmine Prep graduate, who is in his second year on tour, sent out a couple of tweets Sunday night after receiving an outpouring of support.

“Tough to take. So grateful for family and friends. And thanks so much for the support #patience #mytimewillcome”

A couple hours later:

“Overwhelmed by all the support. Thank you SO much.”

A couple of things to look forward to:

* Stanley moved up from 150th to 87th in the official world golf rankings – which is within earshot of the top-50 ranking needed to make the Masters field in April.

* He will surely play his share of tournaments. A win at the birdie-fest that is the Phoenix Open would also earn him a Masters berth.

Lots to root for.
