This week: PGA Tour’s Sony Open, Thursday through Sunday, Waialae Country Club, Honolulu.

Stanley’s first-round score: 4-under-par 66.

Kelly’s first-round score: 2-over 72.

Position: Stanley is tied for fifth, and Kelly is tied for 100th – all trailing leader Graham DeLaet (63).

Recap: Stanley picked up where he left off after a stellar rookie season. His round was bogey-free, and he hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation. And the Bellarmine Prep product birdied the signature hole at Waialae CC – the scenic par-3 17th along the water and usually into a stiff breeze. Stanley hit his tee shot to the back part of the green, and rolled in a 16-foot putt for birdie. … Both of Kelly’s mid-round bogeys were set up by errant approach shots at the first and second holes where he landed in greenside bunkers, and failed to get up and down for par.

Tee times Friday: Stanley at 9:30 a.m. PST off the first tee, and Kelly at 11 a.m. PST off the first tee.
