This week: BMW Championship, today through Sunday, Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, Lemont, Ill. – the third leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Kyle Stanley’s first-round score: 1-over-par 72.

Ryan Moore’s first-round score: 3-over 74.

Position: Stanley is tied for 37th, and Moore is tied for 50th – all trailing leader Justin Rose (63).

Recap: After a rough first day, the locals have ground to make up to advance to next week’s Tour Championship. Even though Stanley hit just half the greens in regulation, he was 1-under through 13 holes. Bogeys at No. 14 (missed 3-foot par putt) and No. 18 (did not get up and down on a 45-foot chip) pushed him back. … This was a much different story for Moore, who opened with 65 in the first round last season. Moore was also 1-under late in his round, but flew his approach shot from 200 yards well over the back of the green, leading to double bogey. He finished with bogeys at the seventh and eight holes.

Tee times Friday: Moore at 9:26 a.m. PDT off the first tee, and Stanley at 9:37 a.m. PDT off the 10th tee
