Putnam, Williams reach round of 32 at U.S. Amateur

University Place’s Andrew Putnam and Chris Williams, out of the University of Washington, completed their rain-delayed opening matches at the U.S. Amateur with victories.

Williams handled David Lee, 2 and 1, while Putnam throttled Juan Salcedo, 6 and 5 at Erin Hill Golf Club in Wisconsin.

Putnam opened his match with an eagle at th eopening hole, then finished Salcedo off with a pair of par-3 birdies over his final five holes.
