This week: PGA Tour’s HP Byron Nelson Championship, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Four Seasons Resort, Irving, Texas.
Stanley’s second-round score: Even-par 70.
Gonzales’ second-round score: 1-over 71.
Putnam’s second-round score: 2-over 72.
Position: Putnam (1-under 139) is tied for 19th, and Stanley (even-par 140) is tied for 29th – all trailing co-leaders Sergio Garcia and Ryan Palmer (132). Gonzales (4-over 144) missed the cut by one stroke.
Recap: Afternoon play got a bit dicey with 30 mph wind gusts. And after Putnam’s birdie putt from the back of the green at the 17th hole did not quite climb the turtleback hump, and retreated to his feet, he ended up with a double bogey. A hole later, he rolled in a 50-foot putt for birdie that helped salvage his round. “That putt,” Putnam said, “confirmed I was playing well.” … Three back-nine birdies got Stanley to 1-under on his round before he finished up with a bogey when he could not get up and down from 40 feet on the fringe for par. … After Gonzales hooked his drive again in the 18th-hole water hazard that led to a bogey to fall to 6-over for the tournament, he rallied with a pair of final-nine birdies (No. 4, 7) to nearly make the cut.
